Core Plumbing Infrastructure Remediation in Toronto

This project entailed a comprehensive overhaul of critical plumbing systems within mixed-use development featuring residential units and ground-floor retail spaces. Our team was brought in to address aging infrastructure and recurring issues that were impacting both tenant comfort and operational efficiency. The focus was on modernizing the domestic water supply and ensuring the long-term reliability of the building's core plumbing.

The original plumbing system relied heavily on outdated materials that had become prone to corrosion and leaks. Residents had reported inconsistent water pressure throughout the building, especially during peak usage hours. Much of the critical plumbing was located within confined wall cavities and ceiling spaces, making access for inspection and repairs a significant challenge. A significant portion of joints and connections within the system were identified as leak-prone, posing a risk of water damage and requiring immediate attention. The initial phase involved a comprehensive assessment of the existing plumbing infrastructure. Using specialized diagnostic tools, we mapped the intricate network of pipes, valves, and fixtures throughout the building. This allowed us to pinpoint the most critical areas requiring intervention. Addressing the main water supply lines was paramount. We replaced aged, corroded sections with high grade copper piping, renowned for its durability and resistance to corrosion. This involved carefully cutting away sections of walls and ceilings in strategic locations, as seen in the first photo, to access the existing pipes. The new copper lines were diligently fitted and secured, ensuring a robust and reliable backbone for the entire system.

To combat the inconsistent water pressure, we focused on optimizing the distribution network. This involved replacing worn out valves and fittings with modern, high flow alternatives. These upgrades were strategically implemented within the ceiling spaces to minimize disruption to residents. The new valves were selected for their precision control, allowing for fine-tuning of water pressure throughout the building.

We employed a combination of techniques, including replacing outdated fittings with advanced, leakproof alternatives and reinforcing vulnerable joints with specialized sealants. Each connection was thoroughly inspected and pressure tested to guarantee its integrity.

This comprehensive plumbing overhaul successfully modernized the building's water system, resulting in consistent water pressure and a significantly reduced risk of leaks. Ultimately, the project delivered a more robust and sustainable plumbing infrastructure, benefiting both current residents and the property's long-term value.
